Troubleshooting

Work through these from the top — the vast majority of problems are cabling, permissions, or MIDI channel mismatches.

First, check the pill in the top-right of the header. Green MIDI Live means Nitelite has a connected output device; MIDI Off means it doesn’t, and nothing will reach your pedal until that’s fixed.

No Devices in the MIDI Panel

• Check that your interface (or USB pedal) is plugged in and recognized by your computer — it should appear in your OS’s audio/MIDI settings.
• Try unplugging and re-plugging the USB cable, then refresh the page.
• Make sure you’re in a supported browser — Safari won’t work, Firefox needs a flag.
• If the browser never asked for MIDI permission, or you clicked Block: in Chrome/Edge go to Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → MIDI devices and allow nitelite.ai, then reload.

Devices Listed, but the Pedal Doesn’t Respond

• Cable direction: the MIDI cable must run from the interface’s OUT to the pedal’s IN. This is the single most common mistake.
• MIDI channel mismatch: the channel Nitelite sends on must match the channel your pedal listens on. Check both — see MIDI Channels. Most brands default to channel 1; Chase Bliss defaults to channel 2.
• Right output selected? If you have several MIDI devices, confirm the correct one is chosen in the MIDI panel.
• Pedal-side MIDI settings: some pedals need MIDI enabled, or a jack switched into MIDI mode (e.g. classic Meris pedals need the EXP jack set to MIDI in global settings). Check your pedal’s manual — or the gear icon next to the pedal in the Channels panel, which shows model-specific setup steps.
• TRS adapter or cable type: TRS-MIDI pedals fail silently with the wrong adapter or a Type A/Type B mismatch — see Choosing Your MIDI Hardware.
• Test the path: the MIDI panel’s Testing panel sends messages manually, and MIDI Activity shows you exactly what Nitelite is transmitting.

Pedal Responds, but Wrong

• Wrong mode or value selected: first verify the MIDI channel — crossed channels on a daisy chain make one pedal obey another pedal’s messages. The Channels panel shows a warning banner when two pedals share a channel.
• A specific control misbehaves: check the pedal’s maturity badge in the app for known gaps. If you’ve found a real mapping bug, report it from the badge popover — those reports get fixed fast.

AI Tone Terminal Issues

• Asked to sign in: the Tone Terminal requires a free account; new accounts include 10 free generations. Your typed prompt is kept while you sign up.
• Out of generations: the free grant is 10 generations per account. More options are coming; everything else in Nitelite stays free and unlimited.
• Suggestions seem off: turn on Send settings so the AI sees your actual knob positions, and give it more context about the sound you want.

Settings Look Stale or Weird

Nitelite’s state is one-way — the app sends MIDI to the pedal but can’t read the pedal’s actual state back. If you’ve twisted physical knobs, the app’s picture is out of date; move the on-screen controls to re-sync reality to what you see.
